Steven and Carmen founded Explorers Photography to bring awareness to cultural heritage around the world through Fine Art Photography. They are published photographers and underwater archaeologists.
Carmen Obied Lopez is the Co-Founder and Creative-Director of Explorers Photography. Carmen's careers and passions are connected by her multicultural influences. She grew up a polyglot, born in Seville and raised in Lisbon and London, with British/Egyptian/Spanish heritage. Carmen is an Underwater Archaeologist (PhD) and Engineer/TPM (at Snap Inc). Carmen is also a professional agency-signed high fashion and commercial model, having worked 10+ years internationally and art-directed large scale photoshoots and magazine publications as the Features Editor for Fashion Shift Magazine in London. Both Steven and Carmen are also photogrammetrists and have led photogrammetry projects and workshops for the Natural History Museum of LA County and other academic/outreach partnerships. Through Explorers Photography, Carmen merges her passion for science, art, and technology.
Steven Lopez, is the Co-Founder and Photographer of Explorers Photography. He is an L.A. local of Mexican/Native American heritage. Steven is also an Underwater Archaeologist (MSc) and Data Scientist (at Snap Inc). Steven first specialized in photography through his archaeological photogrammetric work (3D modeling), which expanded to also directing photographic documenting for archaeological projects, media coverage and publications. Steven has also led photogrammetry projects and workshops for the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. His photographic career has also taken him into the fashion realm through his work as Travel Editor & Photographer for Fashion Shift Magazine in London, featuring his quarterly column 'Oh Snap! Adventures'. Through archaeology, Steven met his wife, Carmen Obied, in Croatia. They are now living in L.A., where they founded Explorers Photography (EP). Through this joint venture, Steven and Carmen aim to bring awareness to cultural heritage through their fine art photography prints.
